Brief History

The Order of the Eastern Star was founded in 1850 by Dr. Rob Morris, a Freemason and Poet Laureate of Masonry.

Dr. Morris was married to Charlotte Mendenhall Morris, and together they developed the concepts and beliefs that formed the foundation for the Order of the Eastern Star.

They went on to create the degrees of Eastern Star around the lives of five biblical women: Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and the Elect Woman. These heroines represent the tenets of the Order: fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith, and love.

"Friendship is the foundation of the Order of the Eastern Star."

"Moral character is the compass that guides us."

"Service to others is the essence of Eastern Star.

"The light of Eastern Star shines bright."
